End of Week 7: The Showing from Hell

Last week we met our new mentors Action Hero (website at the end). They gave us some good solid advice and some decent questions to be asking ourselves during our process. We here at Headdesk are looking forward to working closely with them and exploring how deep down the mysterious rabbit hole of LOVE we can go.

We also scratched our show this week in front of a team of our mentors and peers! The piece is developing well and we have been able to lock down some good comedic forms, pinpointing exactly what is funny. Our showing could have gone better. The line we are treading is very fine as we are essentially making fun of cliche's. Parody and pastiche are always very difficult to navigate even when not dealing with such a slippery subject so perhaps we need to rethink our strategy when it comes to being so overt and over-the-top.

Our original ideas are staying, don't worry! But perhaps we will take our performance back to a simpler route and figure out what we want from it at a complete base level. This show has the potential to be so amazing! And we just want to make sure that you guys aren't missing out by us rushing through our process for the sake of our MA course. Theatre is our lives! It will stay with us long after we stop being students (which is ever vastly approaching on the horizon). We need to start thinking about our futures, and we look forward to seeing you at the finish line!

But for now, a something a little more inspiring (and something a lot more of what we are aiming for):

P.S. If you're looking for Action Hero's website because I metnioned it above and you thout I'd forget to include it, think again! - http://www.actionhero.org.uk/
